Elementary Report Cards Available Today (11/20) in ParentVUE

Report card & Progress report dates - Linden STEAM

Report cards will be available on Fri, Nov. 20 for families of elementary students through ParentVUE and StudentVUE, both available at https://vue.apsva.us. Report cards provide families with a “snapshot” of student academic progress at the end of the marking period. Families are encouraged to review the report card together and confirm that students are making desired progress.

Throughout the first marking period teachers have spent time establishing community, routines, and acclimating to technology use in full distance learning. While teachers are instructing new content and formatively assessing students, they have not had the opportunity to gather sufficient data to support defined letters grades of A, B, C, D or E in Grades 3-5 at this time.

On the Quarter 1 report card, achievement in Grades 3-5 will be reported as: “P”-  Making Expected Progress or “N”- Not Making Expected Progress, just as it is on the existing report cards for Grades 1 and 2. We plan to return to reporting letter grades (A-E) in future marking periods for Grades 3-5 once we have been able to administer additional assessments and have more data to inform these designations for academic progress.

New Elementary School Naming Committee - December 2020

The APS School Board will be seeking input on the naming of the New Elementary School at the Key Site via a Naming Committee. This committee will be comprised of representatives from civic associations, the community, and any school that has had its boundary redrawn to create the new attendance zone. One spot on the naming committee is reserved for a parent from each school whose boundaries are redrawn to create the new attendance zone. You can click on these links for more information about the School Board policy for naming facilities and the policy implementation procedure for naming facilities.

One parent representative will be selected to represent the ASFS community. They will need to attend three virtual night meetings over the course of three months (December-February). In between each meeting, they will be required to gather feedback on the work of the naming committee. The naming committee meetings are open to the public to view. The first meeting is planned for Wednesday, December 16th. The naming committee will make recommendations to the School Board, who will decide on a name for the New Elementary School. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to reach out to Claire Peters.

Once the Arlington School Board takes action on the new ES boundaries on Thursday, December 3rd, look for details in the Friday, December 4th eFF for how you can submit your interest to the ASFS PTA Executive Board by Friday, December 11th. The board will select one ASFS parent representative by Monday, 12/14 to represent the ASFS community.
