Electronic Friday Folder -- May 29th, 2020

Greetings from the ASFS PTA

Hard to believe there are only two more weeks of school left this year now that APS has confirmed instruction will end on Friday, June 12th. See below for updates from Ms. Begley on details for the end of the year, and some info about the ASFS Virtual Field Day coming up next Friday, June 5th!

If you haven't seen it yet, check out the ASFS Virtual Fun Run Video that our amazing ASFS PE team put together! Wonderful to see how many ASFS students joined in the fun, and great job to all who participated!

ASFS SPIRIT WEEK IS NEXT WEEK! Starting this Monday, June 1st, celebrate ASFS each day of the week, and send your photos to Ms. Taylor!

ASFS Closeout Procedures for Students/Parents - June 8th-11th

Closeout Procedures for Students/Parents at ASFS - June 8th-11th
Approved by Zachary Pope, APS Emergency Management Director

ASFS Families,

Since the school year ended abruptly, your child did not get to take all their belongings home with them and we need to arrange for you to pick these up.  Therefore the week of June 8-12 will be the week for you to bring your child and pick up their belongings.  We are going to do this by having people drive up on their designated day and time and our staff will bring your child’s belongings in a paper bag with their name on it.  This will include items from their desks, artwork, items from the hallways, items from the classroom teacher.

While we have three more weeks of the instructional year, I wanted to share the close-out plan for ASFS.

  • Our office staff are preparing grocery bags with your child’s name on the outside of the bag.  The bags will contain student’s belongings, yearbooks, and student’s art work.
  • During the week of June 8-12, each grade level has been assigned a half day period during which you can drive into the circle to pick up your child’s belongings without leaving your car, if you choose.
  • We ask that everyone picking up these items, please wear a mask and adhere to 6 feet social distancing guideline.
  • Please take your temperature before arriving at ASFS.  If your temperature is 100.3 Fahrenheit or higher, you may not enter the building.
  • If we are able to do drive by pickup, please enter from the 14th street end of North Lincoln and enter the circle from the right.  We will have tables set up by teacher name and then the bags alphabetized by classroom and student’s last name.
  • If you walk up, please enter from the 14th street end of North Lincoln.  We will have 6 foot taped lines on the sidewalk for social distancing.
  • When you arrive at the circle, tell the staff member your child’s last name and we will get your child’s bag and hand you the bag.
  • Should we have rain on any of the pick up half days, pick up will take place in the multi-purpose room, entering through the front doors and exiting at the rear of the multi-purpose room.  1 student and 1 parent will be allowed in following the 6 foot taped line for social distancing.  Everyone will be checked for temperature and you must have a mask on.
  • We know that some families have more than one child at ASFS, and therefore, we ask for your patience in coming to ASFS on multiple days to pick up each child bag.  We are alphabetizing 732 bags for the students and so we want to organize and distribute as quickly as possible.
  • If you have any library books, classroom books, or MARS books to return, we will take them from you at that time.  We really appreciate all families who have returned their books to ASFS or Key on M/W/F.  We will continue to collect books in that way for the next 2 weeks.
  • If you are leaving ASFS and have an iPad, please email Ms. Begley so you can either bring the iPad back before this week or we will place a note on your bag that we need to collect your iPad and cord before distributing your bag.
  • If you are unable to pick up your child’s belongings at the assigned time, we will keep them in the multipurpose room until August 1st.
  • If you have questions or concerns, please email me at mary.begley@apsva.us.

During these virtual information sessions, attendees will be able to learn more about the school, engage with the school’s principal, and participate in a questions and answers session. Each virtual information session will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. The sessions will be recorded and posted online for families unable to view the sessions live.
