Greetings from the ASFS PTA

Congratulations to the new 2020-21 ASFS PTA Executive Board! The new officers were confirmed via electronic voting. Thanks to all PTA members who voted, and to everyone for their support at our ASFS PTA meeting this week:

The ASFS PTA membership also voted to approve the April ASFS PTA meeting minutes via electronic voting this week.

  • Chris Brown - With a graduating 5th grader, we will miss you at ASFS next year! We cannot thank you enough for your many hours of time and effort serving as Treasurer for the last two years.
  • Karrie Beaudry - Thank you for your endless dedication & commitment as well as building great new partnerships as VP Community Service, on top of everything else you do to volunteer at ASFS!
  • Kate Merrill - Thanks for all you have done as VP External Affairs, not only for keeping our families up to date on all things APS related, but for your amazing support for our school and board.
  • Kristi Tsiopanas - We are very grateful for your leadership as VP Fundraising, not only with the auction and no-frills fundraiser, but the endless ways you do so much for our school! We will be fortunate to have you as Treasurer next year!
  • Lindsey Englerth - Thank you for all your support on the board as Secretary and many other ways you always step up to help out whenever needed. We are very thankful you can continue on the board in 2020-21!

Support Our Book Donation Drive for Arlington Families!

Thanks to your generosity, books are available at the Key Grab-n-Go site for families to pick up on M/W/F from 11am-1pm and ASFS between 8:30am-Noon! We are still collecting books, and would ​​​​appreciate any new or books in good used condition you have to donate. Please spread the word to help support our families!

Calling ASFS Garden Volunteers for This Summer!

We need your help to keep ASFS beautiful! Thanks to those who have signed up through the end of the school year! We have updated the sign-up list for volunteers to help out with weeding our ASFS gardens through the month of July!

Click below to sign up for a week at a time to weed the front gardens and raised garden beds by the trailers. Come anytime during your assigned week as it fits into your schedule! A great way to spend time outside and support our school, and all instructions and supplies will be provided. Please contact Stephanie Lin with any questions.

Open 2020-21 ASFS PTA Committee Chair Roles 


Even though school is closed for the year, the ASFS Nominating Committee is looking to recruit Committee Chairs for the 2020-2021 school year! The goal of the Nominating Committee is to enlist the talents of as many ASFS parents and families as possible. The Nominating Committee’s responsibility is to consider all interested persons for a particular positions. 

You can make a difference! The value of volunteering is priceless. Why step up? You will have access to your school community, friendships, camaraderie, and support first rate programs at ASFS.

"At Home With APS" Broadcast: New Episodes Weekly for K-2nd Grade

Have you seen the latest "At Home With APS" Videos? At Home with APS is a weekly broadcast designed to bring teacher-led instruction into the homes of APS students and families. Each episode features instruction that is aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) for students in grades K-2, in addition to the instructional resources made available to them as part of the APS Continuous Learning. New episodes are aired each Monday: "At Home With APS" Videos and Broadcast Schedule

Arlington School Board Meeting: Watch last night's Arlington School Board Meeting (5/21/20) for the latest APS news and updates, including confirmation on the APS Plans for End of School Year & Summer School, Return to School Considerations for Fall 2020Interim Superintendent’s Proposed Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for FY 2021 and Future CIPs, and an update on the Boundary Process Timeline for 2020.

Virtual Town Halls with the New Superintendent: The community is invited to a series of virtual town halls to ask New APS Superintendent Dr. Francisco Durán questions and learn a little about him. Community members can submit questions in advance at engage@apsva.us. Details on how to participate will be announced at a later date. Additional virtual town halls are being scheduled for students and staff.

Join Us in Aachen! Arlington-Aachen Elementary Exchange

The organizers for the 2020/2021 Arlington-Aachen 5th grade Exchange Program is now gathering names for those interested in participating. If your family wants to be a part of this 26-year partnership with our German sister city, let us know! Rising 5th grade families are invited to take part in the exchange, where you can host a family from Aachen, Germany October 8-13, 2020, then visit their home March 23 - April 1, 2021. It is an amazing education in culture and the beginning of life-long friendships. 

We are hosting a Zoom Information Meeting on Tuesday, May 26 at 7:00pm. You can learn more about the event and ask questions there.
