PTA Updates: News from the ASFS PTA

2019-20 ASFS Master Calendar Updates

​With no school for the remainder of the year, we plan to host our last two ASFS PTA meetings for 2019-20 via video conferencing. Please mark your calendar with the following dates:

  • April ASFS PTA Meeting - Tuesday, April 14th at 7:00pm
  • May ASFS PTA Meeting - Tuesday, May 19th at 7:00pm

(Note: The June PTA meeting has been canceled.) Meeting details, including the video conference link, will be sent prior to each of the ASFS PTA meetings. Please contact Dena Porter with any questions.

LAST DAY to Order Your 2019-20 ASFS Yearbook!

Last Day to Order! All ASFS Yearbook orders are due by the end of day TODAY, Friday, April 3rd!

  • We are not ordering any extra yearbooks, so make sure to order ONLINE by Friday, April 3rd to ensure you receive your copy. If you are unable to order online, please contact Ms. Caven with options for returning the paper order form and cash/check payment.
  • ​​​​Yearbooks are $20/each, or choose from packages available with additional options, including Personalization, Current Event Inserts, and Yearbook Stickys.   
  • Autograph Inserts are being provided with each yearbook ordered.

NOTE: With school closed through the end of the school year, stay tuned for details on yearbook delivery. 


ASFS PTA Meeting: Tuesday, April 14th 7:00pm

​In light of the school closure though the end of this year, the VA PTA has updated guidelines so that PTAs may continue to host general membership meetings virtually and utilize electronic voting for elections and PTA business. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, April 14th at 7:00pm to join our April ASFS PTA Meeting via video conference. Meeting details and materials will be sent out on Tuesday morning (4/14).

We hope that you will join us to hear from ASFS Principal, Ms. Begley, on the latest school news, and the ASFS PTA Nominating Committee's presentation of proposed ASFS PTA officers for 2020-21.

Note: The only planned vote is to approve the March ASFS PTA Meeting Minutes. You must be an active 2019-20 ASFS PTA member in order to vote. Please contact ASFS PTA Membership Chair, Wendy Williamsto if you would like to confirm your status, or join the ASFS PTA online.

APS School Closure: How You Can Help

Looking for ways to volunteer during this time? Here is a list of options for how you can support our community:

* TODAY ONLY! On Friday, 4/3: Arlington County One-Day Donation Site for COVID-19 Response

* Many opportunities to volunteer: Volunteer Arlington: COVID-19 Care for Community

* Food donations needed: AFAC Food Donation Drop-off Sites, and other AFAC Volunteer Opportunities

* Join the Facebook group: Arlington Neighbors Helping Each Other Through COVID-19

* Serve as an Arlington Community Corps Captains Guide, or sign up to volunteer with your neighborhood civic associations.

Extended Day Registration Now Open

Registration runs April 1-15 for families whose children were enrolled in the Extended Day after school session as of February 3, 2020. Children registered during this time will be guaranteed a spot in the program. Registration continues for all families, beginning April 16. For more details on registration, visit the Extended Day Program webpage.

Interim Superintendent's Proposed 2021 Budget

The public hearing scheduled for 3/25/20 was postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date. APS Interim Superintendent, Cintia Johnson, shared that the timeline for the FY 2021 Budget will be revised. Last Day to Complete APSGo! Triennial Travel Survey

  • ​​APS conducts the APSGo! survey every three years to help guide transportation planning and resource allocation over the next few years and track progress toward our transportation plan goals.
  • The survey is available online in English and Spanish. The survey will be available through midnight until Fri, April 3rd.  Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey in order to better help APS with its transportation planning.
  • For more information on APSGo!, including results from our two previous surveys visit, https://www.apsva.us/aps-go/. Results will be available in Spring 2020.
