Thank You for Supporting the ASFS Book Fair

Thanks to to our generous community, the annual ASFS Book Fair was a great success last week, raising nearly $15,000 in book sales. With our proceeds, we provided additional books for the ASFS Library, contributed funds for 47 ASFS teachers to purchase books for their classrooms, and supported the PTA with funding for school programs and events.

A huge thank you to Michelle Brydges and Amelia Gay for their hard work to coordinate the Book Fair, and a special thank you to Ms. A'Hearn and Mr. McGuire for all of their support as well.  And we want to thank all of the volunteers who helped out during the week - we are very grateful!

APS Elementary School Planning for 2021-22

On December 9, APS staff shared that they will be focusing on Proposal 1. Proposal(s) may be revised as APS gathers ideas and suggestions from community members before School Board action on Feb. 6, 2020. Any changes made would take effect in Sept. 2021. To learn more, visit www.apsva.us/engage/planning-for-2020-elementary-school-boundary-process/

The ASFS PTA encourages all parents to provide feedback to APS in order to help support ASFS with our three requests:

  1. For the 2019-20 school year, provide immediate relief of current capacity challenges by providing ASFS with an additional relocatable classroom that does not interfere with green space or outdoor physical education space for students.
  2. For the 2020-21 school year, provide ASFS with an additional relocatable classroom and work with ASFS administration to provide additional solutions to offset the projected overcrowding expected with continued increased enrollment.
  3. As part of the Fall 2020 APS Elementary School Boundary Process, commit to providing more neighborhood seats in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor.
