PTA Updates: News from the ASFS PTA

Thank You, ASFS Families, Teachers, and Staff, for such a supportive community! We appreciate all your support for our school at this week's PTA meeting. A huge thank you to ASFS RTG, Mr. Villacrusis, who provided an Overview of Gifted Services, and thanks to our PTA for approving two new projects to update our pond in the courtyard and provide a new set of fitness equipment for the playground. Take a minute to read through the highlights in the Draft ASFS PTA Meeting Minutes (12/3/19) for more details.

With regards to ASFS' current overcrowding and need for more neighborhood seats, we are grateful for all the positive feedback we have received so far on our letter to APS, as we shared in the ASFS PTA Email on 12/5/19. In order to send this letter on behalf of our PTA to the Arlington School and County Boards, we want to make sure we have full support. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns by end of day on Sunday, December 8th.

***Please note one update to the ASFS PTA Letter to APS (attached below), based on feedback received today. To ensure we are all-inclusive in our consideration of the need for seats in our area, we have updated the letter to say Rosslyn-Ballston corridor (rather than Rosslyn/Courthouse).

Updated: ASFS PTA Letter to APS (December 2019)

If you have any questions or other feedback, or would like to learn more and see how you can get involved, please feel free to reach out to me directly, or use the link below if you prefer:

ASFS Takes Action: Elementary School Planning Process

As part of the APS Elementary School Planning Process, we encourage all ASFS community members to provide your feedback. The more our voices are heard, the more of a difference we can make. You are also welcome to use the messages included the ASFS PTA Letter to APS (Updated 12/5/19) to advocate directly to APS and the School Board with any additional thoughts you may have. The ASFS PTA requests to APS include:

  1. For the 2019-20 school year, provide immediate relief of current capacity challenges by providing ASFS with an additional relocatable classroom that does not interfere with green space or outdoor physical education space for students.
  2. For the 2020-21 school year, provide ASFS with an additional relocatable classroom and work with ASFS administration to provide additional solutions to offset the projected overcrowding expected with continued increased enrollment.
  3. As part of the Fall 2020 APS Elementary School Boundary Process, commit to providing more neighborhood seats in the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor.

LAST WEEK! Donate by Friday, 12/13 to Support ASFS
Thank you to families who have already donated!

We are down to our LAST WEEK of No Frills and are approaching our goal of $25k by December 13th with 85 families (15% participation) donating $17,970 (3/4th of goal). We also have three company matches so far - thank you for those too!

The grade level with the highest number of families who participate will receive an extra thank you - a fun Cookies & Cocoa Party in January. Currently, Kindergarten is still in the lead, but the other grade levels can still catch up. ALL GIFTS COUNT - even a modest donation could win that warm cocoa on a cold January day.

If you would like to support the many wonderful programs and events we have planned for 2019-20, please donate today. Donations are 100% appreciated, 100% tax-deductible, and go directly to benefit our students, teachers, and community this school year (2019-20)!

As always, donations in any amount are greatly appreciated!

All donors will receive a special thank you from an ASFS student.

Yes! I want to support ASFS this year!

Support APS: Provide Input in County Budget Questionnaire

Arlington County wants to hear your thoughts on how to spend taxpayer dollars. What should our priorities be? Where should we be investing more? Where, if anywhere, should we be looking to scale back?  The Arlington county budget directly affects the amount of funds and resources available for our school.

Please take a minute to let the county know how important schools are to the community!
