PTA Updates: News from the ASFS PTA

As Ms. Begley shared at Back to School Night this week, we are so grateful for our ASFS parent volunteers! Thanks to those of you who have already helped out in so many ways this year, and if you haven't already, remember to submit your 2019-20 ASFS PTA Volunteer Form to highlight the areas that interest you.

As the ASFS PTA plans for the coming year, we'd love your feedback! Complete this brief survey by Monday, September 16th if you'd like to share your thoughts: 1) do you have a preference for PTA meeting start times? and 2) the PTA would love your ideas for this year.

Congratulations to Mr. Bosley's Kindergarten class! For having the highest parent attendance at the September PTA meeting, their class will earn an extra recess. Stay tuned for details on the next PTA meeting coming up on October 1st. In the meantime, enjoy the latest ASFS news and updates below!

ASFS PTA Membership Update

The ASFS PTA already has over 250 members this year, including 25% of ASFS families as well as 25% of teachers! Let's keep up the momentum! If you haven't joined for 2019-20, it takes just a minute to join the ASFS PTA online, or pick up a PTA membership envelope in the front office to pay by cash/check (payable to the ASFS PTA). Thank you for showing your support for the ASFS PTA!

ASFS and Food Bus are again partnering to reduce food waste and feed the hungry in our community! Each school day we ask the students to collect unopened/unused food that they would otherwise throw in the trash after lunch.  ASFS then donates this food to the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC).

We could use your help – for LESS THAN AN HOUR IN TOTAL:

At the end of each school week, a parent volunteer is needed to collect the food from the Food Bus refrigerator, sort it into bins and deliver the food to AFAC. The pick-up and drop off process typically takes less than an hour in total! If you can help, please sign up using this link: ASFS Food Bus Program Volunteer Sign-up

For more information, please email Jackie Java. Thank you for your support!
