PTA News: This Week at ASFS

Happy New Year, and welcome to 2019! Looking forward to working as ONE T.E.A.M. to have a great year together. Thinking through New Year's resolutions and ways to make this the best possible year for our children, just a couple of reminders about how you can support ASFS:

  • Volunteer your time - just an hour or two as it fits into your schedule makes a big difference and is a great way to be involved with the school and your kids. It's never too late to submit your ASFS Volunteer Form, contact Kristi Tsiopanas about the many ways you can support the auction, or reach out anytime to Dena Porter with your interests and talents. There are so many ways to help out, whether during the school day or in the evening, from home, or on weekends.
  • Shop for ASFS - for some easy ways to support our school, use the Amazon Smile link when you shop at Amazon, download the Silver Diner mobile app and earn a % of sales every time you dine, collect Box Tops to drop off at ASFS, and make sure you and your family & friends have your Harris Teeter, Giant and Safeway cards linked to ASFS.
  • Stay Engaged - whether attending PTA meetings, grade level coffee events, or classroom and school-wide family events, or just taking the time to read the eFF and Electric News, everything you do to be a part of the ASFS community is appreciated and helps enrich your child(ren)'s ASFS experience.

Thank you for your support, and a special thanks to all parents who attended the PTA meeting this week - Ms. Holston's 3rd grade class earned an extra recess for having the highest parent attendance!

2019 ASFS Auction -- Sign-On Parties

The ASFS Auction is coming soon (Feb 23rd at Clarendon Ballroom)! Some of the most popular auction items are the Sign-On Parties. These are parties or activities hosted by ASFS families. Join other families to co-host a dance party, family movie night, fiesta night, poker night, wine tasting, or hike along the Potomac - the possibilities are endless! Tickets to your party will be sold as part of the auction, and then all you have to do is get the party started! Many memories and friends have been made at Sign-On parties.

We are hosting an interest and brainstorming meeting at Le Kon Restaurant, 3227 Washington Blvd, on Monday, January 14th at 6:30pm. Come enjoy some Mexican appetizers and a beverage and help us plan the fun! Or, if you have ideas or questions or know you want to host but can't make it, just email Kris Humphrey.

Arlington County Council PTA (CCPTA) Updates

The Arlington County Council PTA (CCPTA) has approved a new Safety Committee. Once interested committee members are confirmed, the Safety Committee will coordinate with the APS administration, including and especially the Emergency Manager, to address priorities for the new year.

In addition, the CCPTA is collecting feedback on the APS boundary process to share with the Arlington School Board. Specifically, they are looking for any thoughts, concerns, and suggestions regarding APS’ boundary process  (methodology, approach, factors used in decisions, means for community input, etc.) to be formulated into structured feedback and possible recommendations for the Board’s consideration.

Please contact Dena Porter by Friday, January 25th if you are interested in serving on the CCPTA Safety Committee and/or have any feedback you would like to share on the APS boundary process.
