Welcome to 2019! ASFS News and PTA Meeting Reminder (Tuesday, January 8th)

Welcome Back from the ASFS PTA

Happy 2019, ASFS families! Hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday break. See below for ASFS news from our principal, Ms. Begley, and details for our first PTA meeting of the year this Tuesday, January 8th at 7:00pm.

No-Frills Fundraiser Thank You

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to the generosity of our ASFS families, we have surpassed our goal for the Annual No-Frills Fundraiser by raising over $35,500 for our school! This is a tremendous achievement, and shows such incredible support for our school, teachers & staff, and community. We are so grateful for your family and corporate matching donations. Thank you for supporting our PTA so we can continue to provide the many valued ASFS programs and events over the coming year, and our students can have the best possible school experience.

Looking forward to working together as ONE T.E.A.M. to make 2019 a great year! --Dena Porter, ASFS PTA President

Reminder: ASFS PTA Meeting - Tuesday, January 8th

In addition, come to learn about the latest upcoming ASFS news and events, from the auction to community service week to upcoming parent coffee events.

The meeting agenda and materials are below, and as always, free childcare will be provided in the gym. Also, remember that the class with the highest parent attendance will earn an extra recess. Hope to see you there!

ASFS News: Letter from Ms. Begley

On behalf of the ASFS staff, we would like to thank all of our parents and guests for attending our Global Celebrations in each of our classrooms.  The students were very pleased to show their learning and projects to our guests.  We would also like to thank our families for their generous gifts during the holiday season.  We appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Starting out 2019, we have begun installation of the turf on the field.  Last Thursday, the workers arrived and erected several fences, brought supplies, and equipment (See attached photo of the ASFS field).  The goal is to have this project completed in 4-5 weeks.  During this time we will have “flexible” recess/outdoor space.  The field and half of the blacktop are fenced off for this project, therefore we will use the play equipment, the front circle, and the park across the street.  We will use a rotating schedule, but know that we have several plans to afford students recess time.  No project is ever without a few growing pains, but having turf for our field will be a great attribute to our safe outdoor play.  Thank you for your patience and encouragement as we work through this process.

As we return to school on Monday morning, please ensure that your child arrives by 8:45, so that he/she can have time to walk to the classroom, put things away, and are ready for announcements at 8:55.  Our goal is to begin instruction at 9:00 and capitalize on the many opportunities for learning we have planned for your child(ren).  It is hard to believe that the end of the semester is only 4 weeks away and that we are half way through the academic year.  Thank you for your attention to daily attendance so that your child(ren) is available for learning.  ASFS is a fantastic community and our number one goal is to provide rich and rigorous curriculum to educate our young scientists.  If you have a question, concern or comment, please call or email me. We are always open to conversation. Welcome back to the new calendar year!
