Only 2 weeks left for our No-Frills Fundraiser!

Donate Today!

All donations are greatly appreciated. No amount is too small -- or too big!

Wish List

Thinking about what to get for your hardworking teacher and ASFS staff this holiday, take a look at what is on their WISH LIST! Keep in mind the APS gift guidelines (see the "APS Gift Policy"below for details).

If you do not see your teacher on the list, Amazon, Target, and Starbucks are always a good gift card idea! Please keep in mind our Principal, VP, office staff (4), extended day staff, custodians (4), cafeteria staff (4), and nurses (2).

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Rabia Oubenadi. Happy Holidays!

Can you imagine keeping track of 140 energetic kids? What about keeping them safe, happy and engaged? This is what our talented team of ASFS Extended Day staff does every day with grace and compassion. Now is the time for us to let them know just how much we appreciate all that they do!

I am organizing a holiday collection for Sabrina and her team, and we need your help. This is a great way to pool our resources together and thank each and every one of our Extended Day staff members. See flyers at extended day. All contributions are welcome.

If you have any questions, please email Ilse Bercik.

APS Gift Policy

Employees may accept gifts valued at a total of $100.00 or less during a school year from any one student, individual, family or organization, including PTAs and Booster organizations. In no instance shall an employee accept a gift given for services performed within the scope of the employee’s duties or given with the intent to influence
an employee’s actions. Any single gift valued at more than $100.00, or gifts totaling more than $100.00 from one giver during the course of a year, must be returned to the giver.

Through the Holiday Helpers program, our supportive school community helps ASFS families identified as needing a hand in putting together a happy winter holiday celebration. Last year we provided gifts to more than 25 children who are part of ASFS. We are asking for monetary contributions only this year. To help ensure all ASFS families have a great holiday season, please send in your donations by Wednesday, December 12th!!! Send them in with your child, deposit them in the box in the front office labeled HOLIDAY HELPERS or donate electronically using venmo (send them to Kirsten-Mallonee). Please email Kirsten Mallonee with any questions. We greatly appreciate your help.

Would you like to help start the PTA at the new middle school at the Historic Stratford Site?  All interested parents are invited to be part of the process.  Join Ellen Smith, Principal of the new MS, on Wednesday, December 12th from 4:30-5:30pm at H-B Woodlawn (4100 N. Vacation Lane) if you would like to learn more.  Please send an email to Dena Porter to confirm your spot, or if you have any questions.

New Middle School Naming Committee Updates

At the second meeting of the naming committee, the committee had narrowed down the choices for the school name to three:

  • Stratford Middle School
  • Dorothy Hamm Middle School at the Historic Stratford Building
  • Legacy Middle School at the Historic Stratford Building

A survey was sent out to the community for input on the three names. In the results from the survey, "Stratford Middle School" was favored by approximately 2:1. The committee met again on November 26th, and heard presenters promoting both the Stratford and Hamm names. The committee conducted several rounds of voting, eliminating "Legacy" as a name and ending in a tie on the other two names. In the course of the voting, a new option, "Stratford-Hamm Middle School" was introduced as well.

Principal Ellen Smith and her staff wrote a report on the results and will present that to the School Board Thursday night. The School Board will use this information to make a final determination on the name. Please feel free to email Kris Humphrey with any questions.

THANK YOU for all who donated and participated in the annual ASFS Coat Swap. There are few remaining items (including hand-knit hats, scarves and gloves) in the box near the office. Unclaimed items will support Arlington's Clothesline.

Monthly Green Tips

The holiday season is a wonderful time to celebrate! Let's consider some ways to help our planet & the future of our kids in the process.

Did you know? Americans throw away about 25% more trash between Thanksgiving and January 1. Here are some ways we can help:

  • Consider gifts that support our community and generate minimal waste. This includes things like sports tickets, theater or performance tickets, charitable donations, gift certificates or DIY with items at home.
  • Wrap creatively! Use Sunday comics, old maps, or brown paper bags decorated with sponge art or drawings. Get your kids involved in the fun!
  • Unsubscribe! Call or email companies that send holiday catalogs to your home or office. To make it easy, CatalogChoice will allow you to cancel nearly all in one location.
  • Invest in LED (light-emitting diode) holiday lights, which use 90% less energy than traditional incandescent lights and can last up to 100,000 hours. Then, recycle old holiday lights safely at your local MOM's grocer through January.
  • Parties at home and in the classroom can add unnecessary trash to our environment. Use reusable items as much as possible, recycle, and ask yourself if an item is really necessary. More fun, less trash!
