Coming up at ASFS, lots to look forward to when we return from Thanksgiving break:

  • Come to Tasty Tales Night on Thursday, November 29th from 6:30-7:30pm in the Multipurpose Room, hosted by the ASFS SCA. And bring your coats and cold weather accessories to the ASFS Coat Swap from 6:00-7:00pm.

Note: The next Electronic Friday Folder (eFF) will be Friday, November 30th after the holiday break.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and safe travels!  --Dena Porter, ASFS PTA President

We are asking for monetary contributions only this year. To help ensure all ASFS families have a great holiday season, please send your donations (cash or check payable to ASFS PTA) in a marked envelope with your child, or deposit your contributions in the Holiday Helpers Box in the ASFS Front Office by Friday, December 7th. We greatly appreciate your help. ASFS Family Night at The Simple Greek (Rosslyn)

Outside the Box Day – November 28th, 9-11am

Please join us for Outside the Box Day on Wednesday, November 28th from 9:00-11:00am! We hope you will enjoy watching the students engage in one of the many children's engineering projects that will be taking place at ASFS. The students will be presented with a challenge, the criteria they will need to meet, and the materials they’ll get to work with. Then they’ll brainstorm possible solutions, choose the best one, and execute it. Be especially on the lookout for the children’s incredible problem-solving skills when they run into a problem, and encourage them to find solutions to their obstacles by thinking outside the box! You will be amazed by the children’s creativity!

Parents, please meet in the library at 9:00am. before being dismissed to the classrooms. At this event, we ask that you not bring siblings as we want you to be able to fully participate with your child and his/her classmates in the classroom. Thank you!

Recyclables Needed for Outside the Box Day – Please Start Saving!

We also need help from parent volunteers to sort these recyclables before and after the event is over. If you are able to spare some time to help us out, please SIGN UP.

ASFS Book Fair: Monday, December 3rd - Friday, December 7th

Did you know that the book fair raises money for books and other things?  We use Bedford Falls, and a healthy percentage of all sales come back to ASFS in the form of cash for the PTA and in lots of new books for our library and classroom collections. Donations are also accepted to be sure that every child at ASFS has a new book to read. The book fair is a great way to support reading at home and school and even get some holiday shopping done!

Did you know all students will visit the book fair? The students visit the book fair Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday at a scheduled time with their class. They have an opportunity to browse through the selections, and complete a Student Book Fair Wish List. They bring their wish list home and share it with their family, or talk about what books they are interested in reading. Students can return with money to purchase books on their own, and/or families are welcome to visit the book fair during the open hours, which includes before and after school, as well as family night on December 6th.

Did you know that the teachers also have book wish lists? These are books the teachers think would be a useful addition to their classroom libraries. This information will be in the library with the book fair. Students can purchase the wish list items and deliver the new books to their teachers!

Did you know you can help? In addition to shopping, parents can also volunteer to help at the book fair.  It’s a great way to volunteer as you get to be surrounded by wonderful books, and see the children’s excitement as they visit the book fair. You can sign up for 2 hours (or more) December 3rd-7th, including evening hours on Wednesday, December 5th for our Family Night, using the following link: Volunteer for the ASFS Book FairPlease contact Michelle Brydges with any questions.
