PTA News: This Week at ASFS

Have you read the ASFS Electric News that came out this week? Take a look at our latest bi-monthly newsletter if you haven't read through already - lots of important information from Ms. Begley and Ms. Jones, the grade-level teachers, and all the subject areas at ASFS.

To say thank you to our teachers and staff for all they do for our students, the PTA provided a popcorn and treat bar during their professional development day on Columbus Day. Just one of the many things our PTA is able to do to support ONE T.E.A.M. thanks to your generous support!

Hope to see you at the Halloween Costume Swap tonight (Friday, 10/12), and keep an eye out for all the grade level social events coming up - another great way to meet and connect with fellow ASFS families. With School Picture Day, Parent/Teacher Conferences, and the ASFS Halloween Parade and classroom parties all later this month, October is a busy but fun month at ASFS! Also a perfect time to help out where you can - there are many opportunities below, submit your Volunteer Form if you haven't already, or feel free to reach out with any questions about how to get involved. Thank you for your support!  -Dena Porter, ASFS PTA President

Principal Notes from Ms. Begley

On this beautiful fall Friday, here are some updates and important notes from Ms. Begley:

  • Today at 12:25 there will be a flyover of 14 WWII airplanes honoring our WWII veterans as part of the Culpepper Air Fest.  Thank you to Steven Leutner for informing us of this opportunity.
  • The turf has arrived and is being stored.  The installation company will begin preparation of the field the last week in October.
  • Many of our students are enjoying wearing “tie” shoes.  Please help your child learn to tie their own shoes independently while we are supporting this in our classrooms.  If they are unable to tie independently, it becomes a safety risk when they are running and playing and fall down.  Thank you for your support.
  • Thank you to all of the second and third grade parents who attended the coffee on Thursday.  We appreciate your collaboration of information and questions.
  • If you have not “signed up” for your Parent Teacher Conferences, please do so by MONDAY!  We look forward to 100% participation all of families!

Art in the Classroom: Volunteers Needed

Art in the Classroom is a PTA program designed to increase the exposure of visual arts. Parent volunteers lead an hour-long workshop providing a quick background about the artist and also leading a fun, hands-on art project with the students. It’s a fun way to engage with students the classroom. No experience or previous knowledge of art is necessary!

Each classroom needs classroom volunteers to teach workshops each month as well as a classroom coordinator to coordinate the schedule. The PTA provides project guides and art supplies.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your child's classroom teacher to schedule your workshop. If you have any questions, please contact the ASFS Art in the Classroom Coordinator, Kristi Tsiopanas.
