PTA News: This Week at ASFS

Hard to believe it's already the end of September, and we are almost one month into the start of the school year! Thank you to all of our families for your support - from volunteering your time to donating to No-Frills to attending school-wide events. Now more than ever, we need YOU!

  • Please JOIN THE PTA - it only takes a minute to join online, and shows your support for the school!
  • Come to our October PTA Meeting on Tuesday, 10/2 at 7:00pm. With free childcare in the gym, it's the best way to stay informed of the latest happenings at ASFS. We wrap up by 8:30pm, and the class with the highest attendance earns an extra recess!

Welcome to all of the new ASFS families who have joined us this month! It was wonderful to greet many new parents at our Kindergarten and First Grade parent coffees. Please note the upcoming grade level events as a way to meet fellow ASFS families, join the ASFS Buddy Program to connect with new friends, and to all families, please feel free to email with any questions you may have along the way.

Announcing the "Design the Steps" Contest Winner

Thank you for all of the amazing "Design the Steps" entries for the ASFS front steps! Congratulations to all of our participants - please look for the display in the ASFS front lobby to see their beautiful artwork! Congratulations to Anna Brodsky on her winning entry, "The Milky Way." See the flyer attached to view her science focused design and a list of all of the participants. Keep an eye out for Anna's design on the ASFS steps, coming soon in October!

ASFS "Design the Steps" Contest

Community Service at ASFS!

On Tuesday, October 2nd, 20 folks from Hanover Research in Arlington are volunteering their time to support our school. The afternoon will be filled primarily with outdoor painting and planting projects, as well as support for the "Design the Steps" contest and beautifying the blacktop and basketball hoops with new paint.

Kudos to Hanover Research and Bill's True Value (for donating planting soil) for their commitment to community service in helping beautify ASFS grounds!  We are so thankful! -Karrie Beaudry, VP Community Service

ASFS Halloween Costume Swap - Friday, 10/12

National Costume Swap Day is around the corner, and the ASFS Green Team is gearing up for our own annual celebration on Friday, October 12th from 6:00-7:30pm in the ASFS Multipurpose Room. Have a costume that no longer works for your kid(s)? It could be perfect for someone else! Look for a box next to the office where we’ll collect costumes (or even costume pieces) until the 12th when you join in for the fun!  We’ll have music, dancing and fall-themed activities while kids search for their new-to-them costume. Think of the money saved, plus the resources that go into making all those new costumes!

***You do not have to have donate a costume to get a new one. Everyone is welcome - the more the merrier! Costumes need to be clean and in good condition. All sizes welcome! Email Amy/Sylvia with questions.

First Grade Fall Picnic - Friday, 10/19

Calling all First Graders and their families! Mark your calendar for the ASFS First Grade Fall Picnic on Friday, October 19th from 5-7pm at Hayes Park (across the street from ASFS). Come join fellow first grade families for fun, food, and to celebrate the start of a new school year! See the flyer for details and what to bring:

ASFS No-Frills Fundraiser

Great news, the No-Frills Fundraiser has now raised over $14,000! Thank you for your generosity and showing your support for ASFS!

Top Ten Reasons to Donate to No-Frills
#10 - It’s fast; just return this form with a check to the ASFS office.
#9 - Or even faster: you can donate online
#8 - It’s easy; no need to sell wrapping paper to your neighbors.
#7 - Your donation is 100% tax-deductible.
#6 - Your employer may match your gift.
#5 - It requires almost zero volunteer time.
#4 - We are hoping for 100% participation. No donation is too small — or too big!
#3 - 100% of your donation goes directly to ASFS, not to an outside vendor.
#2 - We can spend the rest of the year focusing on our kids instead of fundraising.
#1 - It enables all of the great programs and events we have planned this year to support our kids!
