Summer Greetings from the ASFS PTA

Welcome to the summer edition of the ASFS Electric News! We hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer, and looking forward to the start of the 2018-19 school year. The ASFS teachers, staff and PTA have been working hard to get ready for another great year. We are excited to announce our new ASFS PTA motto: ONE T.E.A.M. Together Everyone Achieves More. We are so fortunate to be a part of such an amazing and diverse ASFS community, and hope we can all work together to give our students the best possible experience at ASFS this year.

The ASFS PTA needs YOU! Please click below to sign up for ASFS volunteer opportunities throughout the 2018-19 school year.  Our goal is that all families volunteer for a minimum of two events/activities. Many of the volunteer positions take very little time, and it’s a great way to show support for the school and meet other ASFS families. Contact PTA Volunteer Coordinator Julie Olcott with any questions.

"Design the ASFS Stairs" Art Contest

Calling all ASFS student artists! Do you like to make things beautiful? Do you have a knack for art, color or design? Then this is the challenge for you!

The ASFS School Grounds Committee is kicking off the school year with an art contest to beautify our stairs leading up to the blacktop. Interested artists should submit a drawing or design to the PTA Mailbox in the front office (Attn: Lindsey Englerth) by Friday, September 21st.  Please include: Child's Name, Grade, Parent Email Address, and any notes about or inspiration behind your entry. The winning submission will be selected the following week, and the final design painted on the stairs in early October. Contact Lindsey Englerth with any questions - have fun designing!

Introducing the ASFS Family Buddy Program

We are excited to announce that we will be starting a new ASFS Buddy Program this year to connect new families with returning families. Getting started at a new school can be overwhelming. The goal of the ASFS Buddy Program is to ease that transition and help new families meet others, have a resource for questions, and just get better acquainted. This program promises to be a lot of fun, and not demanding, of your time. If you are a returning ASFS family interested in serving as a buddy, or if you are a new family and would like to sign up, please email Jennifer Bethel.

    Volunteer Needed: Holiday Helpers Lead

The PTA is looking for a volunteer to serve as the Holiday Helpers Lead for 2018. The Holidays Helpers program provides gifts to ASFS students in need. If you are interested in leading the coordination for this important initiative, please contact the Nominating Committee directly.

    APS Updates

APS has released an updated timeline for community engagement as it relates to the Elementary School Boundary Process that will take place this fall. Be sure to visit APS Updates on the ASFS PTA website for more information!

Save the Date: Join us on Tuesday, September 18th at 7:00pm in the ASFS Library for a visit from Monique O'Grady, Arlington School Board member and our ASFS school board liaison.
